This weeks plan, and dedication…

This week, I have already started planning.  I do not have Cam-man this week, and my bottom lip is dragging, it’s ok though, because I have some time slotted for just him.

This week is dedicated to the Farmer.  You see, the Farmer NEVER actually gets a break.  He is there 24/7, with me to fill in daily.  After getting up so early last week to go get Cam-man, the Farmer had made a remark to me.

I listened.  Tomorrow, I am going to arrive at the Farmer’s at about 7:45 am, and get Momma‘s 8 am meds ready and give them to her.  When he hears me arrive, he is to turn over and sleep in as long as he wants.

When he does finally surface, it will be to a fresh cup of coffee, and a fresh cooked breakfast, and not one of those freezer breakfasts he eats over the weekend when I am not there.

I will also do this again on Wednesday, just for him.  You see, while he may feel like sometimes he is in this with just her and him, I’m here too.    I can get up early, and it’s not hurting me any to go over a little earlier a couple of days a week.  And also, believe me when I say, I can totally understand wanting to sleep in.  I cherish Saturdays and Sundays for this fact.

I NEVER want the Farmer to feel he is alone in this journey, and while there are times he has to understand, I also have my own family and can’t always do what he needs.  I am still here.

We figure our Calender religiously , I know when his events are and I mark them on my calender and know what I am supposed to be doing.  I hate the fact that the Farmer has to “ask my permission” to go to an event. I hate the fact there are times I have to tell him no, because I already have plans.

While neither one of us signed onto this Parkinson’s Thing, we are both here, and both trying to make it work.  I would say, we do it together rather well.

Because the bottom line is Momma.  She is the sun in our lives.  I am reminded of a song, it is one, that was on Facebook this week, and I laughed, because it was a very good friend that started it.

You are my sunshine My only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray, you’ll never know dear, how much I love you, please don’t take my sunshine away.

On this the Farmer and I are on the same page. Although Parkinson’s has entered our lives, and trust me folks, we’re in Stage 5.  We are scared, and living day-to-day.  It doesn’t matter if it’s raining outside, if Momma wakes up, the sun is shining.

Macaroni and Cheese…Epic fail…

Today, as  usual was a cooking Sunday, I was ready.  I had a rack of baby back ribs, that I smothered in a dry rub, let them sit in said rub for about an hour and  slapped those puppies in the oven.  Low and slow.

The question was, what to make with them?  I googled some idea’s, I asked a friend.  My mind was made up, I was going to make Baked Beans, and Macaroni and cheese.

Let me just state for the record,  I have attempted to make Mac and cheese (from scratch) so many times, to come up extremely short.  While I appreciate the fact, the Electrician attempts to swallow my offerings, today’s was bad.

While I can make Boef a la Bougnoin, and other french dishes, and cook like a fiend any type of Mexican cooking, and may I say, I can cook Chicken and Dumplings with the best of them.  This Macaroni and cheese thing, well….  let’s just say, I’ve made dog food that tasted better.

So, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the traditional all American meal of Macaroni and Cheese.

The Electrician has gotten to the point where he has asked me ever so gently, to forget about it.

I guess there are some things I was never meant to cook.  Macaroni and cheese, must be one of them.

A Conversation….

The Electrician and I have had a discussion this evening.  It brought a lot of different things to mind.

Our discussion was, what life would be like in Heaven.  Is it like we think?  We talked about the different people we would love to see that we have missed oh so much.

For me?  I miss my Grandma Ruth….She was such a BIG part of my life.  She helped to raise me with the Farmer.    She was the one I could always count on to give it to me straight.  Grandma Ruth was the one who always made me pick up my socks,  take a look at my surroundings, and make sure I knew what I was doing.    From spending Summer’s with her and attending the YWCA camp, and eating popcorn on Sunday nights, to watching Illini football, and just being in her little apartment with my own room.    I can’t even find the words to describe it.  Being held in her arms, when I was little is something I have never felt with any one else.

To our friend Rod, who died of Cancer a couple of years ago.  What a guy, I was the honory “little sister’  to him and the Electrician, and the fun we had all together.  “Let’s get it started” by the Black Eyed Pea’s was our theme song.  From driving down to Gulf Shores Alabama, and staying with him for 3 days…oh my gosh what memories we all have.

To My first “Step-Momma” Dorthie, I would love to just hug her once again.  The Farmer married her when I was 2, and she was my Momma until she died when I believe I was 11, I’m not sure, because in my mind that time was so muddled, it’s hard to remember.  It was very hard to me as a kid, to remember when all of this stuff happened, and I blocked a lot of it out of my mind, because seriously, it was to painful for me.

Believe it or not, I would like to just hug my ex-husband one more time.  While Marc & I were married for 13 years, and not all of it was good,  After we became divorced, we actually became friends.  I was so saddened the day he took his own life.

People come and people go in and out of your life, remember to learn the lesson’s they were there to teach you, and just be happy you had them.

Okay, it is raining cats n dogs outside, and I told the Electrician I was going outside and he looked at me like I had lost my mind.  Now that I have toweled off, and am somewhat dry.  It was very refreshing.   You see, I believe sometimes rain, is Heaven crying tears, because the people up there  miss us down here on earth.

I feel refreshed and renewed, although a bit soggy.  I believe they miss us as much as we miss them….

I Love Sunday’s…

I really love Sunday’s.  It is the one day of the week, that I actually sleep in.  Although, Ms. Baby still comes in at about 6:45-7:00 am, meowing her head off trying to get someone up to a.) feed her, b.) give her treats, and c.) let her outside.  Today, the Electrician got up with her.  I’ve had a couple of seriously late nights, and while I could handle it  when I was younger, I can’t handle it now.  (Wow, I have just affirmed, I am older, UGH)

But back to why I love Sunday’s.  Sunday’s I have no agenda, I can do whatever I want, when I want.  It is basically a lazy day in my house.  I don’t have to put on clothes, and can stay in my p.j.’s all day long.  I don’t have to go anywhere.

Today, I spent most of the day in my kitchen.  I made some blueberry muffins, regular size and mini size.  Some Chocolate chip/butterscotch cookies, for the Electrician’s lunch all week.  Then the “piece de resistance”.

Let me explain.  The Electrician and I have an agreement on Sunday’s.  I will get everything ready for the grill, and he will grill it, and then we eat.  Today, I prepped some Rib-eye Steaks, (which may or may not have thrown me over budget at the Grocery store yesterday, although it could have been the rack of ribs, or the whole salmon, but who knows, I was over-budget yesterday, uhm…oops) I prepped some foil packets.  One of which was mushrooms with butter and some spices, the other was a foil packet of Brussel sprouts with spices, also a couple of baked potato‘s wrapped in foil after being nuked for a couple of minutes, and then rubbed with olive oil and encrusted with salt.

Dinner was good, (burp) (uhm, sorry), then the Electrician got to take his nap, and I goofed off watching a movie “Julie and Julia“.  Which I truly enjoyed, being a “foodie” type of girl.  It was fun entertainment, and I recommend it.

Oh, and I also own the book, that the movie was written about. Mastering the Art of French Cooking.  (well, actually, I stole it from the Farmer, Hi Dad!).

I have cooked quite a few things from the book, with my favorite being  “Beef Bourguignon”  and I have probably misspelled it but, it’s Beef in Burgundy wine.  It is one of the Farmer and Momma‘s favorites.

Anyhow, My Sunday would not be complete without talking to my “outlaws” which we do every Sunday evening.  Usually, we play, who can call who first.  The past 2 Sunday’s the Electrician and I have lost, and the “outlaws” call us first.

I am truly lucky in the fact that I really enjoy my “outlaws”.  They are my “second set” of parents that I really love.    Of course, my Father-outlaw, always gives me a hard time, and I’m used to it.  I hope I give as much as I get, and we both chuckle.   My Mother-outlaw, I love, she is so supportive of me taking care of Momma.  You see, she did the same thing with her Momma.    My M-O-L has given me a lot of advice and good tips, and just over-all support.

I guess, I really love Sunday’s simply for the fact, I can relax, goof off, and just be , well, lazy.

I also feel so blessed.  Just by the fact, the people in my life love me, and take care of me, and also, I just feel really loved.

“A Fart in a whirlwind”.

A long time ago, ok, maybe not that so long ago.  I used to move around quite quickly, accomplishing a lot of things at once.  I like to think of it as multi-tasking.  The Farmer refers to it, as me being a “fart in a whirlwind”.

I thought about this term on Saturday, after I had gotten up and started a million different tasks around the house.  I managed to finish them all, and get all my errands done as well.

I had a little mental moment (ok maybe a BIG mental moment on Saturday).  Sometimes, things that we go through in our life,  (as the Farmer says) builds character.  But sometimes, there are awful memories.  I think the trick is to get over it, and go on from there.

Sunday morning dawned, and something happened to me that I’ve NEVER had. The Electrician brought me breakfast in bed.  Now to some of you, this may seem silly, but I was a little over whelmed.  The Fact that he got up early, made coffee, and a spanish omelet, with baby sausages, and fed it to me, well, I started feeling bunches better.

My Sunday was a lazy day, although I did make a loaf of bread, it’s called Amish country bread, and I have never worked with yeast before.  After following all of the instructions, and then getting it on the baking sheet, I sprinkled, kosher salt, dried rosemary, and parmesan cheese all over the top of it.   While it was in the oven, I went out to my garden, and picked some fresh basil, along with fresh parsley, then came inside and made pesto (for the first time as well).

Ok, confession time for Camsgranny, when the bread came out of the oven, while it was still warm, I sliced that puppy up and the Electrician and I spread the pesto on it and then we proceeded to eat the whole loaf.  Oops.  We ended up eating a late dinner, and had a relaxing evening.

This morning I woke up feeling a little refreshed, but a little hesitant about seeing the Farmer.  I said some things in my blog, I wasn’t sure how he would take.

After our heart to heart, and a hug, things were ok again.  We did end up talking about Momma too.  We both know she will never get better, and will get worse. unfortunately for us, we see some of that now.   But we are in agreement, we will continue status quo.

So, now that all of the problems in our world have been solved, I can go back to being that “fart in a whirlwind”.

My Sunday tale….

Being that today is Sunday, and the ONLY day off for the Electrician, we made a pact.  Today, we were going to sleep in, get our “chores” done early and relax the rest of the day.

We slept in, and kind of goofed off while drinking coffee and trying to wake up this morning.  For once, Ms. Baby did not come in and try to wake us up at the crack of dawn.  (Nah, she was sleeping in at the foot of the bed).

When we finally decided to get our butts in gear, the Electrician ran the lawn mower around the yard (uhm,  only to knock the weeds down, as my yard is dead, due to lack of rain). After making the bed and starting a load of laundry, I was up in the kitchen trying to figure out what I was going to cook today.

The Electrician came in and decided he needed to go to the store to get a bandage for his arm (where it got burned this past week).  I asked him to pick me up some bleach, and also a can of beer.  (I’ll explain in a minute).

I then proceeded to clean out a chicken,  make a dry rub and wait for my can of beer.  I decided it was going to be Beer Butt chicken on the grill for dinner, with a baked potato, and some Brussel sprouts in a foil package on the grill.

The Electrician called me from the store and said, “They don’t sell just a can of beer, why don’t you call our neighbors and barter a can of beer for a loaf of that pumpkin nut bread you just made”.  Hmm… I hadn’t thought of that.

So I called Farmer #2 (next door neighbor), and asked him, “Do you have any beer in your house?”  he replied “Yea, why?”, “Can I please have a can of beer, and I’ll give you a loaf of Pumpkin nut bread in exchange, is that ok?” his reply was swift  “Meet you at the back door”.  So, I got my can +2 of beer, and they got a loaf of pumpkin nut bread.

So, I proceeded to spice the chicken up, with a rub, and then I shoved 1/2 a Vidalia onion and 1/2 of a lemon , 1/2 a head of garlic, 2 sprigs of rosemary (off my wonderful rosemary plant) up its butt, then I put the other half of the garlic head in the beer, the other half of the lemon, and some onion slices and some more sprigs of fresh rosemary into the beer can.  Then The chicken and the beer can got married.  (HAHAHA, nah, really, I shoved the beer can up the chicken’s butt).  It went onto the grill, for about 2 hours, hey it was a 5 pound chicken.  I also threw the baked potato, and Brussel sprouts onto the grill about an hour after the chicken.

The Electrician, has not realized how tired he was, but he went in and took a nap, while I played “Grill-Master”.

Dinner was really good folks, I recommend  trying Beer can chicken, I’ve done it for years, but this time, the lemon and rosemary, and Vidalia onion made a real difference.

After we ate dinner, we both had showers and into the p.j.’s.  Today, has been our day to relax, recoup, and regenerate.  The Electrician and I both have difficult “jobs”, at the moment his is more demanding than mine, and I am behind him 100%.  Right down to giving him those back massages.

We got a phone call from Farmer #2, and he stated that after trying the pumpkin bread, they went out and bought another case of beer, and are ready to barter anytime.

My Sunday has been very relaxing and fun with the Electrician.  Hope y’all’s Sunday has been peaceful and full of fun too….  Right now, I have to go because one of my favorite movies is on, call me a nerd or whatever, but the Narnia Chronicles are my favorite, and this one is  Chronicles of Narnia and Prince Caspian.   Night!

Hugs from Camsgranny to you!

Late night again….

Well here it is 12:13 am, I cannot sleep.  I just arrived home from the Farmers house, oh about an hour ago.  The Farmer had his CCRA  (Champaign County Rifle Association) night (with the guys).  They get together and I am told he had a steak and baked potato dinner, and an awesome “guest speaker“.  (yawn).

It’s been a long day for me.  I got up woke up to the Electrician kissing me goodbye, on his way to work.  Um, yea I went back to sleep (sorry).  I did finally surface after Ms. Baby came in and gave me “the what for” (as in get yer butt outta bed and feed me, or let me out), and she even kicked me with her back paws to make sure I understood she was serious.

Yea, yea, whatever.  I got my butt outta bed and did the stuff around the house I was supposed to, and thought I’d better get things ready for the Electrician, because 1. He’s gonna be tired when he get’s home, and 2. He has class tonite, which means he’s really gonna be tired.    In case you missed my post about his new job.  The Electrician is working 10 hour shifts on the Wind-turbine farms.

Anyhoo, I made his lunch for tomorrow, and set his clothes out, and did those other domestic diva things I do, and then I left my house, for the Farmers.

I did the usual stuff there, and folks, let me tell you, I kinda freaked out on Sunday, because Momma was sick.   She had a cold, which I did not want to turn into pneumonia, and while we are not out of the woods yet, the prognosis is good.  The Farmer and I have taken extreme caution with her and given her meds for her temp, (which only spiked once). ( By freaking out, I asked everyone I knew on Facebook to put her in the Prayer chain. )  Well, let’s just say it’s working.

But I’m digressing once again, back to today.  I had a really cool post that I was going to post until….well….let’s just say Camsgranny muffed up.  I have to tell the Farmer tomorrow, but uhm….well…it goes back to me taking pictures with his camera (which by the way is totally awesome).  The pictures I took at his house with him and the Electrician working on the yard, well… I took the pictures with his camera, but I took the memory card out of the Farmers camera to download the pictures into my computer with MY camera (which really is the Electrician’s camera), and well…uhm…I forgot to put the memory card back into his camera before I took the pictures…..  OOPS….

So, for any of you technical people out there, can you tell me how to put the pictures onto the memory card and off the hard drive of the camera?  Or what I have to do to get the pictures from today?

I’m not giving away what the pictures are but some help here, please?

Anyway….today was a long day filled with the Farmer and Momma and Cam-Man, but right now I am seriously to tired to go into it other than the dilemma of how to get my pictures back.

I think I am seriously not ready for technology…..cuz I always find some way to muck it up….

Unique, Relaxing Sunday…

Today dawned in my house this morning kind of bleary.  A typical rainy Sunday.  Ms. Baby tried to wake me up at o dark thirty and I ignored her this morning.  The Electrician did not fare as well as me, and he got up when she kicked him.  Folks, I don’t need an alarm clock.  Mine is four-legged and VERY loud, and if you try to ignore her, she kicks you to wake you up, if that doesn’t work, she walks up your body, peers into your face and wills you to wake up.

When I finally surfaced and came out of the bedroom (which the Electrician had thoughtfully closed the door, so Ms. Baby could not make me get up, Thank you to the Electrician).  I went and got a cup of coffee.

I was supposed to go to the Farmer’s today, but unfortunately I got side tracked in my kitchen.  Plus, on a rainy day, I really did not want to go outside.

After scrubbing my house yesterday and doing about 13 loads of laundry (every sheet, blanket, comforter, clothes and everything else has been washed long over due) .  I wanted a day to just play in my kitchen and relax.

The Electrician had gone grocery shopping on Friday, and brought home something new.  I’m not sure how it happened, but I think he read “Beef steak” instead of “Beef shank” so, I tackled that today.  It’s been so long since my house has had a steak, that well…I just don’t know what to tell you.

I researched all of my cook books and then did some research on the internet.  I figure it was kind of like cooking a round steak, and folks, I was right.  I cooked those Beef shanks in my crock pot with some cream of mushroom soup, Lipton onion soup mix, and beef broth for about 6 hours.  Made some smashed potatoes, with corn on the cob, and some biscuits with rosemary and sea salt, and WHAMMO, you talk about a good stick to your ribs meal.  I’m still burping.

The Electrician went out to get some movies from our local video store (something we have not done for oh about 5 months).  We spent our Sunday relaxing watching some movies.

The first one we watched was called “Contraband” with Mark Walhburg.  While I enjoyed this movie and it kept me on the edge of my seat, well.  Ok, the Electrician enjoyed it more than I did.  I think it is one of those “man” films, that while I enjoyed it, it was ok.  If you ask the Electrician though, he will tell you this movie was the “BOMB”.

We took a little break and ate some crackers and stuff…(yes, I’m still burping from dinner, however, I do burp ladylike…hehehe).  I wanted popcorn, but the Electrician didn’t so I ate the crackers.

We got ready to watch the second movie of the day which was “Tower Heist“, it starred Ben Stiller, Alan Alda,  Tea Leoni, Eddie Murphy and a lot of other good actors.  Folks, I really like this movie, sure it  was a little corny, but it had me laughing.  I’ve enjoyed both of the choices that the Electrician made for our “relaxing” Sunday.

We did do the “splurge” today, normally we don’t rent movies, but sometimes, it’s nice.  Although, the Electrician did not “cuddle” on the couch with me today (it’s ok Sunshine) Ms. Baby did, we truly had a Unique day with each other.

I cherish these.

Surprise Sunday

Well, here it is Sunday evening, and I’ve had a surprisingly terrific day.  I went over to the Farmer’s and made him go out to lunch with some friends, and I spent some quality time with Momma today.

She was a little dozy with me, but we talked, giggled and over all had a good time.  I let her cat-nap so I could finish the laundry and mop the kitchen and bathroom floors.

The only thing was, Momma DID NOT want any therapy today.  She advised me in her “prim and proper” voice.  “They didn’t let me do therapy at the Nursing Home on Sundays, and I think I am going to stick with that.  I’m not doing therapy its Sunday”.  Uhm…..ok, no problem.

So, I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk (part of therapy), to which she replied, “Sure, let’s go”.  So, we went for a little walk.  Then I sat her back into her chair, and then I vacuumed the part of the living room (uhm, right in front of her chair), and asked her to lift her legs so I could vacuum, she lifted them up (5 times to be exact).  I asked her to read to me from the Sunday newspaper, and she did.   Uhm…Yup, it was a NO therapy day today. (giggle, uhm, I won that round).

The Farmer arrived home, after enjoying his lunch with his friends although, he did say he needed a nap.He also remembered his daughter, you see, he went to a place called “The Beef House” who is famous for it’s dinner rolls and he brought me some home, yummo.   So, I scooted off down the road to my house with my Beef house rolls.  When I arrived home, after the Electrician had called me and asked to stop and get a bag of ice. (Yes, our ice maker has gone fritzy)

I walked in and asked him if something was on fire, to which I got my surprise.  While I had been with Momma, my beloved Electrician had made me dinner.  After watching Food Network, in my house, it’s paid off.  This man-made me pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon (on the grill), broccoli and rice with cheese sauce, a mixed green salad with all kinds of lovely favorites in it, and grilled garlic bread.  uhm, burp, uhm, excuse me.  I was in heaven AND I washed the dishes, while he dried and put away.

This man never ceases to amaze me.  He takes such good care of me too.

I came across a saying today, and I’m using it in my closing.  First off , I have a lot of respect for the person that said it, secondly, this person also suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, and Momma reads every article he writes. I also love his movies and his series of “Back to the Future” are one of my all time fav’s.

Night peeps…:)

Vicks Vapor Rub is in the air…..

Yep, I’m in the puppy house tonite.  Remember those famous words from my last post?  “LORD, help me if the Electrician get’s it?”  Guess what?  The electrician has it.

After a very restless night of me coughing, and sweating and not being able to breathe, uhm, I got up and went and slept propped up on the couch.  I was trying to save the Electrician from this form of whatever it is.

I woke up to him sitting in the chair in front of the computer with his head in his hands stating “What have you gibben me?  I can’t breave and my chest hurts.”  Ruh Roh Raggy.

I do have to say that since Camsgranny had taken all of the medication in this house yesterday, the Electrician isn’t the wuss I am.  He showered and then went to the store to get us both some medicine.  So, needless to say, we’ve been drugged up all day, and trying to get better.

I did manage to thaw some chicken and green chili from my freezer and made a batch of “cure-all-ails” Green chili Chicken stew. I figured that if we could burn whatever is in us, out, we would be ok.  After eating a bowl, I can honestly say my sinus cavity got cleaned out, and my sweat glands are working just fine.

That leads me to Vick’s vapor rub.  Me, I swear by the stuff, anything that you can rub on your chest that makes your eyes water and your nose clear, well…it’s got to be good huh?  The Electrician, he doesn’t like it so much.  Especially when I come out of the bathroom, (mind you this is AFTER I asked him if he wanted to try it, and he told me I probably won’t even be able to smell it)  and he stated, DAMN what is that smell?  See, I told you it worked. (insert BIG grin here).

So, needless to say I did not have Sunday at the Nursing Home with Momma, simply for the fact that while I will bounce back and recover from this in a couple of days, it could SERIOUSLY set her back.  I tried calling the Farmer this morning (Oh and BY THE WAY, he was one of those who told me YESTERDAY, you sound like $hit). to tell him I wasn’t going to visit today, but his phone rang, and rang, and rang, and rang.  I wasn’t worried, it just meant that he was on his computer, and I’ll get a phone call later.

Hopefully after all of this medication and Vick’s Vapor Rub and a HOT TODDY, welp,  I should be back to normal tomorrow.  The Electrician….well, I’m still in the puppy house for getting him sick, but like he said, at least he doesn’t have to go to work tomorrow.  He just has to deal with that lil Cam-Man, who is full of Energy…but I don’t think Poppa will mind.  They get along pretty good.
